Passing of Lew Thomason

It is with great sadness and regret that we of the International Police Association, (IPA), Region 43, South Florida & greater Miami announce the passing of our President Lew Thomason on October 9, 2013.  Lew had retired from the Miami Dade Police Department on January 31, 1996 and had attained the rank of Captain.  He was hired as a police officer in 1968 and promoted through all civil service ranks.  At the time of his passing, Lew was traveling abroad visiting Paris France as well as other locations throughout Europe when he succumbed to an apparent heart attack.  He was also the IPA’s Associate Secretary to France.  Lew was traveling with his wife Ellen and daughter Jenny and had just completed a reunion with this brother who he hadn’t seen in 40 years.  Ellen had returned home just days before his passing.  Lew passed in the place he loved the most with the people he loved the most.  Plans are now underway to bring Lew back to the USA and as of this time there are no plans as to the funeral.  Members of the IPA are working in conjunction with the RPOC who will spear head the planning process.  As more information becomes available, we will advise.

Jerry Rudoff, 1st Vice President, IPA, Region 43
