Note to our Region
62 members:
We need your assistance more than
ever! Requests from potential visitors are
listed by dates pending and reflect only what the webmaster is aware
of (and has had the opportunity to update).
Hopefully, with this plan, no one individual
will wind up doing all of the communicating, planning, or all of the
work, and more importantly, no request should go overlooked.
Obviously, a lot depends upon what is requested, and especially how much
advance notice we are given. Our region has noticed a significant
increase in requests and many requests are very open ended and do not
give necessary particulars. Often they are received without many
details or particulars, many do not contain verifiable IPA ID at all,
and many seem to arrive after being sent from individuals in one region
or another, sent through, or to an IPA friend or an acquaintance, often
arriving at the very last minute. This does not enable your region
to do its best work. We really do need the assistance of every
member (and friend) of Region 62 to enable us to assist our fellow law
enforcement IPA members, and to offer them the same type of courtesy and
assistance that we would perhaps like to receive. Thus, we depend
Important: Any member able to assist, accommodate, or help
out in any way [hosting, pick-up, accommodations, sightseeing, meeting,
special arrangements, or whatever] on any
of the listed requests PLEASE email our

Note to all of our prospective visitors (and to those that might be forwarding requests (such as Associate Secretaries or other Regional Officers.) The majority of us come from active law enforcement backgrounds. Although some of those careers may have been long ago, we should still be able to remember some of the very basic tenets that we were taught, or that we learned the hard way ~ IF ~ in fact we learned anything at all. Almost every police report, and every successful investigation required FACTS, ("Just the facts, ma'am", as Sgt. Joe Friday of Dragnet fame used to quip). I used to teach that there were five (5) very important W's and one (1) H that needed to ALWAYS be included in every single report or communication. The 5 W's and the H. The Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How.
It is rather frustrating to receive information from individuals or from other areas advising that a visitor is coming especially when they are requesting assistance, only to find that we have not been provided with significant details, often not even the very basic information. Let us all remember what is needed, and let us never do that to another area, region, or member. More details are always better than too few.
Please see
the area at the bottom of this page for the information that is needed
to process and handle requests for assistance.

They will arrive at Union Station at 2:00 pm on
Friday, i July via Amtrak from New York (departing NYC @ 1035).
They will be staying at
The
Latham Georgetown Hotel, 3000 M Street NW, Georgetown,
Washington DC, 20007. While here they would like to visit some
museums, such as the National Air and Space, Natl. Museum of American
History, the Museum of Crime and Punishment, and the Spy Museum.
On Independence Day they plan to join the crowds on the Mall.
They
would also possibly
like to have some short visits to various U.S. law enforcement
agencies and police departments with the opportunity to meet or
get in touch with police officers, detective, investigators and learn a
bit about their workplaces, daily routines, police vehicles, and
possibly the Forensic Crime Lab. They will depart Washington from
Dulles (IAD) on Wednesday, 6 July at 1240 pm for San Francisco. I
am sure that any such assistance will
certainly be appreciated. It would be nice if we can get them from
Union Station to their hotel and from their hotel to Dulles.

Please Note: ALL visitors are requested to
use the approved IPA travel forms submitted through the appropriate
respective
Associate Secretary or Region Secretary. The
travel request form is to be accompanied by a photo copy of the
requestors current (and valid) IPA identification card. (This measure
is meant to provides a modicum of protection.) See the IPA travel
regulations and requirements at:
http://www.ipa-usa.org/travel.html. Our Visitor Assistance Team (VAT) will need as much information as possible to include: 1.) Some pertinent
background information regarding yourself . . . c.) In what capacity do you (or did you) serve? Rank? Responsibilities? d.) What type of duty assignments have you held, special skills, interests, etc.? 2.) Information about any traveling companions. a.) Names, relationship, etc. 3.) Detailed itinerary. Very Important. Give us as much detail about your plans as you possibly can. a.) Firm dates, to include arrival, departure, etc. When and where? b.) Duration of stay in our area. c.) Where and when you plan or expect to be at certain locations (if traveling to other areas).
4.) Mode of travel? Knowing exactly which
airports will always help. We often are not able to meet flights,
however, we do have three major airports that serve our area - and so we
do need particulars - just in case.
a.) Which Airport? DCA, IAD, or BWI? b.) Flight #? Coming from? (We may need to check in-flight scheduled arrivals for updates.)
c.) Scheduled arrival
time? Gate number (if known)? Please keep in mind that many of our airports have a cell phone waiting area where individuals meeting flights MUST wait in their autos for a call from the traveler. 5.) Arrangements already made or booked. a.) Exactly what travel arrangements have you already made “on your own”, or what might be included in your travel package?. b.) Include ALL that you may have booked such as sightseeing packages, tours, or anything that may already be scheduled or arranged. (This information can help us to avoid any possible duplication of efforts.) 6.) What do you plan (or really want to visit, see, or do in our area that we may be able to assist with?
Very Important (and necessary)! The appropriate IPA travel request form accompanied by a photo copy of the requestor’s current (and valid) IPA identification card. 7.) Some other items you might want to consider: |
