National Police Week Events
Washington, D.C.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund offers this caveat:  "The 23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial will take place on Friday, May 13, 2011.  The Candlelight Vigil is traditionally held on May 13th, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls.  Every six or seven years, May 13th falls prior to the official start of National Police Week, as it will in 2011.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week determining the dates for National Police Week 2011 — Sunday, May 15th through Saturday, May 21st.

The Peace Officers Memorial Day Service, hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary is always held on May 15th, again, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls."

Considering all of this rhetoric, and realizing that although the "official" police week for 2011 may be May 15 - 21, there are several activities that will take place BEFORE the 15th.   After sorting through the various and (sometimes) rather confusing dates that have been posted on the various FOP, LEOMF, and other sites . . . it must be stated that all of the information on this page comes from these other sources.  They are thought to be correct.  Updates will be made as new information might be received.  Until then . . .
