Regional Activities, News, and Announcements

Region 62 participates in a variety of activities.  We usually meet in the Northern Virginia area and have been meeting in several different venues.  All IPA members, their families, guests, and all qualified prospective members (active and retired law enforcement officers) are always welcome to come and join us.  Meetings will be announced as scheduled.

News and Events   ~

<>  We continue to have IPA visitors arriving.   Please click on the active  visitor requests  link button to see a list of scheduled visitors and associates that may be arriving.

  • Perhaps you will be able to meet some new colleagues and make some new contacts and friends.

  • Check the listings for updates to see what is requested or may be needed.

  • Perhaps you can provide some hosting, sightseeing, or make some necessary arrangements.

  • Check out the requests and the activities of our various visitors.

  • Break out the Amber fluid.  The Aussie's are coming!  Some really gone walkabout!  Guides to Aussie slang - 1 & 2.

<>  If you have not provided us with a valid e-mail address we may not be able to communicate with you easily.   Our region recently  prepared a new updated directory of all updated, renewed, and combined members (regions 62 & 7) but there are still far too many gaps on addresses and way too many bad e-mail addresses.   Obviously, some will be missing the announcements.  Contact the webmaster and provide  a valid and email address and other up-to-date contact info and we will update our records thus insuring that you receive all mailings.  We can keep your info confidential if you that is what you prefer.

    Next scheduled activity / meetings:

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 1830 (6:30 pm).   Eggspectations Restaurant.

Venue will be in the private meeting room at Eggspectations Restaurant, 5009 Westone Plaza Drive, Chantilly, VA 20151.  Phone: (703) 263-7444.     MAP/directions.     MENU

Take the Westfields Blvd. exit off of route 28 (Sully Road), heading west (or perhaps sw) to Stonecroft Blvd.  (should be the first exit).   Take a left, followed by another left and Eggspectations will be located in a small mall of stores that parallel Rte 28 in the SW quadrant of the cloverleaf.

We have enjoyed this location, along with the good service, food, and beverages for several of our previous meetings.   They have been able to accommodate our group by providing separate checks for our dining.

Come and join us.  We hope to see ALL of you there.

    <> Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 1830 (6:30 pm).   Eggspectations Restaurant.

    • Our election of officers for the new term will be held at this meeting!

    • All positions are open.  They are for a three year term with the new officers being sworn in (usually) at the December meting.  New officers officially take office on December 31, 2010 and will serve for the years 2011, 2012, and 2013.  (IPA bylaws)

    • The following officers must be elected according to existing IPA bylaws:

      • Region President

      • 1st Region Vice-President

      • 2nd Region Vice President

      • Secretary

      • Treasurer

      • NDC Representative

    • Other positions may be elected or appointed.

      • We do need a Newsletter Editor.

      • We can also certainly use a new Webmaster.

      • We always need help (and occasionally lots of it) with hospitality and or hosting,  How about someone that would like to COORDINATE or CHAIR the handling of these visitors and their needs?

    • All Elected officers MUST be current paid up members and MUST maintain this status during their term of office.

    • Being a regional officer require a commitment.  It also requires some time and effort.  It is NOT a "walk in the park".  It can be very worthwhile IF all (or many) will work together and help.  If not, the region ceases to function effectively and will fail.  It is up to you!

    • If YOU are interested in any of the positions please notify me, LLinville@cox.net or the Region President, Timothy.Field@fairfaxcounty.gov A.S.A.P.   If you plan to nominate someone else (either by e-mail or at the October meeting) we will need their signed acknowledgement and acceptance of the nomination, IF they will not be at the election meeting!   Anyone desiring to run for any office or position - PLEASE DO SO!

    • Anyone desiring to prepare a brief bio of themselves, or their goals, intentions, or desires for the office they seek may do so and send it to me.  I will either reprint it on the website or we will do a special newsletter if necessary.

    • Should a sufficient number of the membership decide that they cannot or will not attend the October meeting, AND if they make these feelings known to the President, (or to me) in sufficient advance time, we might try to hold the election via an email ballot (regular mail being a bit too expensive).  While we might miss a few members (especially those that might have email but have not bothered to furnish me with a current email address yet) we would likely reach more than will attend a meeting (even when the food is great and the companionship even greater)!   Of course, being somewhat of a pessimist, I doubt that the return of ballots (even if we have enough candidates) would be overwhelming.  Come On, prove me wrong!

    • I hope there are enough members that will consider the region important enough that we at least have TWO people running for each position.

    • The following are the individuals that I presently know about willing to continue or to consider taking on a role for the coming years:

      • Region President - Tim Field   (incumbent)

      • Treasurer - David Ackley   (incumbent)

      • Secretary - William "Joe" Dunn   (incumbent)

      • NDC Representative - Dennis Arcoraci

<> Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 1830 (6:30 pm).   Eggspectations Restaurant.   Our annual holiday party will be held in the private meeting room at Eggspectations.  For the first time we will not be bringing dishes and we can all sit back and enjoy a great meal of our choosing.

As per tradition we will have our special “white elephant" gift exchange.  So every individual (or couple) please remember to bring that truly special “white elephant" gift that you really want to see someone else open (and you hope to never see again)!    An exotic lamp shade, ~or~  the simulated pearline inlaid desk set (with the non-working clock held by the naked hula girl that was left to you by your Uncle Charlie, ~or~ even a Buddha figurine with a tummy to rub for luck could be yours (still sorry that Santa missed me with one of those).   Just bring the wrapped gift with no from tag and put it in the pile.  Who knows who will get to take it home this year.

Be there, and come in a festive spirit.  You are among friends.  Don’t forget to bring that "white elephant".  Pink elephants come later!

Your ideas and suggestions for locations, events, activities, etc. for these and other activities for our Region are eagerly solicited.  A volunteer to head up or even to assist with an activities/events committee would really be great at this point.  Contact the webmaster or the president if interested.

    Recent (past) activities   ~

Members have enjoyed a variety of different meals, repasts and activities at our meetings at a variety of venues.  It is always an informal gathering, wherein we enjoy the fellowship of our members, occasional guests, and discuss items of mutual interest while having fun and an opportunity to get together in a social setting.  We have enjoyed picnics, catered buffet, potluck, chili dinners, cold cuts, etc.  Various members have also provided some special treats.  We usually discuss future plans at the meetings and the newsletter and web page provides us with a "heads-up".

For our "catered" activities, it really helps (and is often necessary) if we can get an approximate headcount by the Monday before our meetings for planning purposes.  This is often very hard to do as cops and those in and around law enforcement (especially those of us that are retired) seem to hate to commit ourselves to anything.  However, as a courtesy, when requested, please (pretty please) give the noted person a call or drop an e-mail to them if you can attend.  We hope to always see you there.

Our more recent past activities have included:

Wednesday, June 16, 2010.  1830 (6:30 pm).   Dinner and meeting at Eggspectations Restaurant.

Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 1830 (6:30 pm).   Another great holiday party was held at the Fairfax County Police Association Hall.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 1830 (6:30 pm).   Good attendance & another great time at the venerable Yen Cheng Restaurant.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 1830 (6:30 pm).   Great attendance & Great time!  Venue was the private meeting room at Eggspectations Restaurant, Chantilly, VA 20151.
