Region 17 of the United States Section of the International Police Association was chartered on May 8, 1976 as the seventeenth region to be formed within the United States. Today, the region has about 200 members in Colorado and 18 in Wyoming. The members represent more than 40 Colorado law enforcement agencies, 5 Wyoming agencies, and 9 federal agencies. Members who have retired from law enforcement agencies from outside of Colorado and Wyoming represent 22 different agencies from 11 states.
As is the custom with IPA Sections and Regions throughout the world, visitors are welcome to our region, and will be greeted warmly. Language won't usually be a problem here! Our visitors will find regional members, or their spouses, who can sign in sign language for the deaf, and our international visitors with limited English language skills will find that, collectively, we speak 17 different foreign languages: Dutch, Flemish, French, Gaelic, German, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Mandarin Chinese, Norwegian, Portugese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Visayan.

February 2008. Region 17 has a long history of helping host an annual Colorado visit of the Salveson Ski Group of handicapped children from England. Here are their early plans for their 2009 visit:
The trip is planned for February 2009, leaving the UK from Heathrow Airport on Friday 13th (yes, really!) and traveling back on the following weekend (21/22/ Feb). This will tie in with the majority of peoples half-term breaks so only involves missing one day of school. We will be having 6 days of skiing with the NSCD and 1 day of adventures in the middle as a break. We will be taking 10 Young People, and 14 Volunteers and staying in Winter Park Village.
Here are just a few events of National and International interest, but in the future, we'll try to add some events of broad interest sponsored by other U.S. Regions.
Your Web page editor only selects a few events to list here; be sure to visit the IPA United States Section Website for more information on upcoming events.
October 7-11, 2008. 2008 NDC in Colorado Ssprings, Colorado. Hosted by us, REGION 17!
The members of Region 17 are pleased to invite all of you to beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado for the 2008 NDC meetings. We are nestled at the foot of famous Pikes Peak which was the inspiration for “America the Beautiful”. October is after the busy tourist season with warm dry days and cool mountain evenings. You will enjoy the opportunity to explore the many attractions in the city, nearby Manitou Springs and Pikes Peak region during your stay.
Colorado Springs sits at an elevation of 6500 feet. Expect warm sunny days in the mid 70’s and cool evenings in the 50’s. Our humidity is very low in the fall. Hopefully our aspen leaves will be in their full colors.
Here's a Conference Announcement and Registration Form.
Visit our Travel Page and look for things to see and places to visit in the Pikes Peak Region while you are here. We'll be setting up visits to many of them to make it easy for you.
