Our August General Meeting is an important one, as nominations for officers will be held. Those making the nominations Must Be Present. Those making the nominations and those running for office Must be members in good standing (dues paid up-to-date). The nominees need not be present but they need to forward a signed letter stating that they would accept the position if nominated. For example, the letter could read: “I will accept the position of ______ if so nominated.” (Signature below).
This will resolve the problem of a good candidate, who had the desire to win a spot on the board, being eliminated by not being able to attend that particular meeting.
The elections will be held in November at the next General Meeting and all those voting Must be present. Any candidate running for office will have the right to post his/her biography in the Region 11 Newsletter in the November/December issue. Please limit your bio to 250 words or less. Send in your bio early so the newsletter editor, Rich Kreuter, can have it. Richie’s address and contact info is on page two of this newsletter under the category of “Region 11 Board Members”.
The August meeting will be held at a Brazilian Restaurant located at 559 East Sample Road in Deerfield Beach by the name of “Rice and Beans” (“Feijao Com Arroz” Restaurant) . Bring your spouse, friends, associates, whomever you like. You will receive 50% off your total bill. Be there early (6:30 / 7:00PM) to order and start eating. The food there is fantastic!! This is the same venue where we held the Brazilian festivities back in 2003 and 2005. The meeting will be held after we are finished eating.
I would like to thank the following members who helped give the Russian IPA visitors a warm welcome when they recently visited with us here in Florida. Vera and Sal Pagliaro along with Guntis Treijs provided translations all day and evening long. Al Lamberti (Major with BSO) and Rick Reilly (Captain with BSO), provided tours at the Broward Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Building. Jim Fahy (Marine Patrol with BSO) gave the Russian visitors a boat ride down the Intracoastal Waterway. Jim Durkis (Patrol Sergeant with BSO) coordinated the day with BSO as well as taking them all to a great Cuban restaurant for lunch.
That evening, the Russian entourage were taken to dinner at the Cove Restaurant in Deerfield Beach. Our 1st Vice President, Shaun Casey, was able to acquire a sizeable discount on the food and beverages. In attendance at the restaurant were: Shaun Casey, Gerry Colbert, Rick Schulze, Vera and Sal Pagliaro, Bob Killen, Guntis Treijs and Frank and Dr. Heather Maio. A BIG THANKS TO ALL!!!
The NDC is in Las Vegas in November and, as a National Officer, I am not eligible to be the Region 11 delegate. As per the vote, Shaun Casey will represent Region 11 at the NDC this year. The Region will pick up Shaun’s registration fee only. All other expenses will be Shaun’s responsibility.
Any members wanting to attend the NDC can still do so. Information regarding the NDC can be found on the IPA web-site at www.ipa-usa.org.
Tom Savoca, who started the Region 11 web-site, is now the National Web-site master. Check it out ! I have been in contact with Tom and he has agreed to update our Region’s site. If you have any ideas for the web-site please get with me.
The Board is attempting to locate a site for the Oktober-Fest fundraiser. If anyone has any ideas or recommendations please contact any of our board members. Please be a part of this festivity by assisting with this event.
Our 6th Annual Holiday Picnic is going to be held at the Villages of Hillsboro Park. We will have all kinds of barbeque food, gifts for the children and raffles for the adults. Santa Claus will be making his yearly appearance to bring smiles to all who attend. (See Event Calendar).
To close out the 2007 social functions we will have the following events:
Marlins Baseball Game Comedy Night Holiday Picnic
Oktober-Fest (See Event Calendar)
At the last meeting, the membership voted to purchase 3 tickets at $100 each from the National fund raiser which has 17 cash prizes from $250 to $10,000. It was voted that any winnings would go directly into the Region 11 savings account.
Anyone can purchase these tickets which would be limited to the first 300 sold. The drawing will be held at the NDC.
Again this year between September 4th – September 15th, I will be a USA Section Observer in Hungary. All members with any input on the IPA and/or Region’s concern, kindly contact me.
