2016 International Youth Gathering (IYG)
The IYG is an annual event of the International Police Association that brings together young people who are children and grandchildren of active or retired police officers from all over the world for two weeks. It is designed to give the attendees an opportunity to experience travel to another country and to meet people of a similar age from different cultures and backgrounds while gaining a deeper knowledge of the history, social character, and life of the hosting country. This year, for the first time in 25 years, the event is being hosted July 16-30 by the United States.
For this year’s event, 50 young people from these countries will travel to Los Angeles to attend: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China (Hong Kong), Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Events are planned to allow these young people to experience a wide variety of activities together. Among the events planned are a bus tour and visits to museums, theme parks, and an LA Dodgers baseball game to experience “America’s pastime.”
As you might imagine, this is an expensive undertaking. The fees paid by the attendees cover only housing expenses; the rest must be funded by money received by the IPA – U.S. Section.
Please help to make this experience one that these young people will remember for the rest of their lives by contributing through any of these means:
· Mail a check payable to “IPA/IYG 2016” to the event treasurer: Donna Levi, IYG Treasurer, 22711 W Avenue D13, Lancaster, CA 93536
· Contribute to the “International Youth Gathering Scholarship” using the “Donations” option at the IPA-US website (www.ipa-usa.org)
· Contribute via the GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/ipa-iyg) – and please share it with your friends!
