WARNING
The International Police Association, its Sections and Regions, does
not request money via emails, does not investigate fraud, facilitate money
transfers, or EVER ask for your personal banking information via unsolicited
emails. Those emails are SPAM or PHISHING emails where the sender is trying
to get you to forward money or banking information to them in order to
defraud you. The IPA is not alone in being the victim of scammers who
take data off websites, emails, letters, etc and create false email requests
that are commonly referred to as Nigerian Scams; all major corporations,
banks, governments, and organizations have had this occur, too.
Please do not fall for this - if it sounds too good to be true - IT IS!
Please realize that the Federal Law Enforcement agencies will only investigate
actual fraud and loss complaints that involve tens of thousands of dollars
- so, again, please do not send your money and information to these scammers
and NEVER click on links within a SPAM or PHISHING email, as that can
lead to Trojans and Viruses downloaded onto your computer.
The Federal Trade Commission maintains a database of SPAM and PHISHING
emails in order for Federal Law Enforcement to build a case against these
people. They need the original email, including all header information,
forwarded to them at: SPAM@uce.gov Consumers
who think they have been taken advantage of by a spam scam can file a
complaint with the FTC online at www.ftc.gov.
Complaints will help the FTC find and stop people who are using spam to
defraud consumers. To learn more about how to avoid spam scams and reduce
the clutter in your in-box, check out www.ftc.gov/spam.
